Thinking about starting a guild? Here are some tips to get you started!
Click To Read
Welcome to the World of Warcraft. Most likely there will come a time
as you progress through the game when you see that lots of people have
guilds or are in guilds. Well, you may someday think you want to have a
guild yourself. This is where the guide comes in. There are certain
things you have to think about before making the commitment to being a
Guild Master. Here is a list of things you must consider:
- Will you have at-least 30 minutes a day to devote to running a guild?
- Is your level high enough to start a guild? For example, a level 12
may not make the best guild master for levels from 15+. You won't know
what there talking about.
- Do you have enough experience in this game to start a guild?
- Will you have time to recruit at-least 10 minutes a day when you first start the guild?
- Will you have time to recruit at-least 10 minutes a day when you first start the guild?
- And one of the most important things, are you ready for the anger and stress that may occur when running a guild?
- You have to be ready to kick out your best friend if it's the best for the guild.
You have to be ready to stand strong and not take anything from a
guild member. Still reading? You must have all of the above checked
then! Now, lets start with the basics.
The Basics
Well, of course when you start, you will have to visit an
Information Center in one of the large cities. If your Alliance (GO
ALLIANCE!) then you will have to go to Iron Forge or Stormwind. I
don’t believe there is one at Darnassus. I've never been horde before
so if your a horde player you will have to figure it out on your own,
and ask your people to stop killing our NPCs! Once you find the place,
you will have to pay 10 silver (10s) to get a charter. The charter
takes 9 signatures. Once you have those 9 signatures you can turn in
the charter to create the guild. When picking the guild name, it helps
to have something that makes sense. Some people think that the name is
a big deal.
So having something like ‚"We kill people" as a guild name may not be
so great. Having something more like - "Alliance of Kings" or "Gnome
Throwers". Both of those were real guilds in the server of Staghelm.
Finding people willing to sign a charter may be hard. So a little trick
alot of people use is saying ‚ Can someone please sign my guild
charter? You can leave when it's turned in, i just need signatures.
This usually works. When you have the guild charter signed by 9 people
and turn it in then you now have your own guild. There are some things
you have to do before you recruit.
Those people that temporarily joined the guild will most likely leave.
Now, go to the guild tab of the social window. Once there click on the
message of the day, say something like ‚ "Welcome to *guild name*" We
are currently recruiting, and we hope everyone hangs with us until we
have more members‚ or something like ‚ "hey everyone, have fun!"
Now, make a real nice guild message. Something along the lines of ‚
*guild name* is now recruiting! We are a guild for all levels (or
levels of your choice). We have (a website, tabard, ventrillo, etc).
For invite, (give me a pst [or if you have a website and want them to
apply] go to *website.com* and apply on the forums)!
Guild Tabard
Guild tabards must be nice. A lot of people make a big deal about the
tabard as they do the name. Maybe either have a vote after about 30-40+
members on 5 different tabard ideas, or just pick one you think
everyone will like. Don't use all the same color and make sure you can
see the icon easily. If you have a dark blue tabard background with a
blue icon it may be hard to see. But a green icon on a blue tabard may
be better.
A Guild Website
It should have a forums, a guild calendar, and guild information
page. Don't make it too complicated. The forum should have categories
for general discussion, guild discussion, off topic, raid, event,
officer, and suggestions. I believe that is the main categories you
need. Or just subscribe to WoWinstaller.com's guild website, their
pre-configured website is all you need. These guys have it all figured out! Their website comes pre-installed with pretty much everything you will ever need
including a very useful shoutbox. You can easily turn-off some features
you don't need. I highly recommend them!
Voice Communication
A lot of guilds have voice communication systems like ventrillo and
teamspeak. I suggest you hold off on buying a server until you have
at-least 100 members. Teamspeak is generally easier and less confusing.
But some say that ventrillo has better sound quality. I personally
didn't see much of a difference and i like teamspeak much better. It's
a lot easier to use.
Events
Once you get about 50 members, your gonna want to have events. Most
popular guild events are meetings. These need to be short and to the
point. People don't generally like meetings because they take up 15
minutes of there life, which they would be spending on the game anyway.
Usually it's easiest if you do the meeting over guild chat so not
everyone has to come to somewhere in Stormwind or something for the
meeting. Other events may be parties. These could include a race from
Menithal Harbour to Ironforge, duels and drinking at an inn, BG
grouping, raiding, anything fun. It helps to have fun events every once
in a while. People may get tired of a stressful day at work, or get
sick of meetings in real life and the game, so give them some fun!
Different Types of Guilds
Raid Guilds - These are mainly for people level 30-40 and
higher. Few raid guilds allow anyone below 45. These are for raiding
instances like Molten Core, or killing bosses like in Onyxia's Layer.
They are also sometimes for raiding horde towns. Raiding places like
undercity is only possible if you have a raid guild and at-least a 40
man group. It's really hard to find a group and cooperate with people
you don't know to attack undercity.
Twink Guilds - Twinks are usually, not always, but usually
level 19. They are for Battle Grounds and thats pretty much it. The ida
of a twink if to have a twink at level 19, 29, or 39. Then you use your
main (your strongest character that you play the most) and use him to
get the best possible items for level 19, 29, or 39. Then you have a
really strong low level that will totally wipe out people in Battle
Grounds. When you have a main above level 40, twinks can be a fun idea.
A twink guild is basically a guild for twinks only, and they do lots
and lots of Battle Grounds.
Fun Guilds - My favorite. These are just to hang out and have
fun. They do events often, and it’s a very good idea if your someone
who isn’t real serious about leveling.
General Guilds - These are just normal guilds that do a mix.
They can do Battle Grounds, Events, Parties, Raids, anything they
want.
Final Word -
Problems in the guild need to be dealt with fast and quietly. If
someone is causing a problem, like begging or cursing, boot them
without thinking about it. This will show that you will not let anyone
disrupt your guild. Guild members may stay longer because they know
your going to make there gaming experience a nice and peaceful one.
There can be a lot of drama in guilds. Fights, Begging, Scamming, but
all of it has to be dealt with fast before you loose any members. If a
low level comes and starts asking a high level to ‚run them through an
instance, talk with the lower level and tell them that everyone has to
work in groups with others. If they keep going, you will loose high
levels cause it is really annoying when some level 25 comes up to a
level 55 and asks them to ‚ run them through Deadmines. So if they keep
going, boot them.
Don't let anyone disrupt the guild, deal with problems fast, and you will have a nice peaceful guild.
